About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire our maternity services, driving forward the implementation of our strategy and improving the patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and provide assurance on clinical and operational governance systems and processes, specifically clinical risk management, CQC standards, clinical policy and procedure, clinical quality, health and safety, patient experience, complaint systems and resolution, incident reporting and resolution, contractual quality measures, and safeguarding.
  • Drive forward and monitor the implementation of the Maternity services strategy throughout the Trust, improving the patient experience and taking into account both national and local guidance.
  • Act up as the Director of Midwifery in the day-to-day delivery of the clinical business of the service and assume delegated functions of corporate nursing or midwifery development programmes, midwifery recruitment and retention, measuring and improving standards of care and the patient experience, in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls, and resource constraints.
  • Oversee the safe and effective midwifery and nursing staffing both operationally and strategically on the delegated site.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professional knowledge and expertise in order to provide detailed advice to staff within both the midwifery and multi-disciplinary teams working with CSLs and operational leads to drive and deliver organisational objectives.
Requirements
  • Registered Midwife with NMC
  • Master's degree or equivalent level of academic achievement in health or management-related topic or able to demonstrate equivalent senior management experience
  • Leadership development
  • Educational/Mentorship qualification or experience
Desirable Criteria
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate
  • Significant experience as a midwife and nurse working in a senior role, including 8C HOM or consultant Midwife
  • Evidence of delivering change on a major scale with tangible benefits to patients in the organisation
  • Experience of financial and budgetary management
  • Contributing to the development of strategy
Skills and Knowledge
  • Of key current issues in the NHS, Maternity transformation, and the changing nature of healthcare policy
  • Highly developed motivational skills and strong commitment to staff empowerment/involvement
  • Working in collaboration and partnership with other organisations
