About the Role

Townsville Catholic Education is seeking a dedicated School Officer - Assisting Student Learning (ASL) to join our vibrant school community. This is a term-time position, completing 25.85 hours per week for the duration of the 2024 school year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with learning and participating in the school, including working in classrooms with teachers, providing support for First Nations students, and liaising with teachers to determine progress and wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance, pastoral care, and advocacy for First Nations students and their families, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with local First Nations community groups and traditional land owners.
  • Support teachers in the classroom, assist with classroom resources, and work in partnership with teachers to support student learning.
  • Assist individuals or small groups with activities as part of inclusive teaching and learning practices, supporting the teacher with behaviour management and the development of social skills and classroom skills development.
  • Communicate with teachers about student progress and areas of need, inform the school principal on any welfare issues, and develop professional relationships with students based on trust and respect.
Requirements
  • The ability to organise and prioritise a range of tasks and set priorities to meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrated competence and confidence in using a personal computer and relevant software packages.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities and/or special needs is desirable.
  • A current Working with Children Suitability Card and a current Driver's Licence are mandatory.
