About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Intensive Care Specialist to join our team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. As a Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading a team of junior doctors, and contributing to the development of our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert care to critically ill children, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Lead and manage a team of junior doctors, providing guidance, support, and supervision to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring that our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit remains at the forefront of best practice.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives, working collaboratively with colleagues to drive innovation and excellence in patient care.
  • Teach and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals, sharing your expertise and knowledge to enhance the skills and confidence of our team.

Requirements
  • Completion of all competencies in Paediatric Intensive Care (minimum of two years) in a unit approved for training by the RCPCH National GRID training programme, including a minimum of six months of anaesthetic training OR equivalent training OR an experienced substantive Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care.
  • Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process. Evidence of effective leadership skills.
  • Commitment to participating in research activity.
  • Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors.
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.
  • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working. Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
