Job Purpose:

The Lead Refrigeration Engineer is a key role within the refrigeration team, responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance across multiple site locations. This position also involves team leadership, coaching, and technical support for a small team of refrigeration engineers.

This role requires a strong technical background, with a focus on ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards, in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while complying with company health and safety policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules within agreed timescales and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately.
  2. Respond promptly to service call requests and assess the requirements of the job, carrying out repairs as necessary.
  3. Prioritize maintenance and repair work to achieve agreed timescales and response times.
  4. Order spares in accordance with company procedures.
  5. Identify non-repairable faults in plant and machinery and advise the line manager of findings, with recommendations for suitable replacements.
  6. Ensure compliance documentation is always completed and up to date.
  7. Carry out surveys and complete reports as required.
  8. Provide technical support for refrigeration engineers within the team.
  9. Provide on-job coaching and training where required.
  10. Complete and document initial return to work interviews and welfare meetings.
  11. Support the Operations Manager in the recruitment of new refrigeration engineers.
Financial Responsibilities:

This role has limited financial responsibility, focusing on ensuring tasks are completed in the most efficient manner and within pre-defined budgets.

People Responsibilities:

Team leadership responsibility for the engineers in your allocated stores, with a focus on coaching, technical support, and coordination of team activities.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds 2078/2079 are essential.
  2. NVQ Level 3, CO2, and CARE qualifications are desirable.
  3. Previous team leadership/supervisor experience is advantageous.
  4. Previous experience delivering planned and reactive refrigeration services within a multi-site retail environment is essential.
  5. Strong track record of working efficiently on your own and as part of a team.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Basic PC literacy, with experience of a CAFM system to manage task completion.
  8. Full driving license is essential.
  9. This role is physically demanding and may involve working at height, in confined spaces, and lifting/carrying heavy equipment.
