Job Overview

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work across the Stroke and Neurology Pathways, providing specialist assessments and treatments to patients with acquired neurological disorders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist assessments and treatments to patients with acquired neurological disorders, including dysphagia, dyspraxia, and dysarthria.
  • Support the Clinical Lead and Senior Speech and Language Therapists in the development and implementation of speech and language therapy services.
  • Contribute to the education, training, and development of the multidisciplinary team, including the supervision of junior Speech and Language Therapists and assistants.
  • Participate in service development and quality improvement projects, including the development of policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the wider Adult SLT Service, including voice clinic, head and neck specialists, and acute ward specialists.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Professional specific degree in speech sciences or medical sciences.
  • Certificate to practise.
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Member of the Healthcare Professions Council.
  • Recognised formal training or competencies in relevant specialisms, including post-basic dysphagia training and full competencies in cognitive neuropsychology approach, dysphasia, dyspraxia, and dysarthria assessment and management.

Desirable Criteria

  • Advanced dysphagia training in neurological conditions.
  • Dementia training.
  • Basic first-line management training.
  • Leadership training.
Interpersonal Skills

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Postgraduate experience working within adult stroke and acquired neurological communication disorders.
  • Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication.
  • Experience working with neurological dysphagia.
  • Experience of working with complex ethical issues regarding nutrition and hydration.
  • Experience of supervision of Speech and Language Therapy students up to final year.
  • Experience of supervision of junior Speech and Language Therapists/assistants.
  • Experience of working within a stroke multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of participating in service development and quality improvement projects.
