Research Software Development Lead

**About the Role**
The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a leading national Research Centre dedicated to transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology.
We are currently expanding our Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Theme and seeking an experienced Senior Research Software Engineer (RSE) to join our Core team. As an RSE, you will work 50% on maintaining institute-wide Data and Compute infrastructure and collaborate with research project teams to provide expert advice and assistance on challenging problems across scientific disciplines.
The Franklin faces unique technology challenges as it processes multi-terabytes of data per day with complex scientific software often on high-performance computing resources. Our cloud-based data and compute infrastructure allows scientists to process workflows from taking data on instruments to disseminating data via publication. As a senior RSE, you will develop this infrastructure to meet our scientific goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other groups to develop scientific software such as web applications, APIs, Machine Learning, and Image processing.
- Write and deploy your scientific software making the best use of existing cloud/HPC/data infrastructure.
- Apply good software development practices like CI/CD, writing tests, and installers.
- Requirements gathering.
- Collaborate with software support groups in STFC Scientific Computing Department and The Rosalind Franklin Institute.
- Create comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for all members.
- Attend scientific seminars and meetings to stay updated.
- Manage Graduate and Student placements associated with the Franklin.
- Line Management of RSEs and RSAs.
- Disseminate results through papers and presentations.
- Contribute to public engagement in science.
- Support core team in development and maintenance of compute and data infrastructure.
- User support and service management.
