About the Role

We're seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Lead to join our Tax team. As an Indirect Tax Lead, you will play a critical role in managing our overall tax strategy, reducing risks, costs, and ensuring compliance with tax laws in every territory we operate in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, accurate, and practical VAT advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to identify their needs and priorities, and work together to manage indirect tax risks globally.
  • Build a network and work efficiently with external advisors to manage indirect tax exposures, stay up-to-date on ongoing compliance obligations, and understand the impact of expansion as Wise develops its global footprint and service offerings.
  • Work with the tax implementation team to support various projects, including indirect tax return automation, e-invoicing, transfer pricing, invoice coding reviews, end-to-end process mapping, and documentation.
  • Review global indirect tax returns to ensure fully documented review processes and timely filings.
  • Be an engaged, pragmatic, and proactive member of the tax team, helping to make indirect tax more accessible and understood across the organization, including providing training to the finance, accounting, and AP teams.
  • Determine tax provisions and communicate these to stakeholders, as well as determine and enact action plans and process improvements.
  • Help the Head of Tax in managing and reporting tax risks, tax provisions, and risk incidents to be escalated.
  • Manage, lead, and grow the indirect tax function.

About You

  • You have at least 6 years of indirect tax experience, preferably with a big 4 or in-house, with some experience in financial services.
  • You have a good understanding of spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) and can understand large volumes of complex data.
  • You have a solid understanding of EU VAT and cross-border indirect tax principles.
  • You have the ability to work with and influence stakeholders on indirect tax matters at all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • You are a self-starter and can organize your own work.
  • You are not afraid of making decisions, can work autonomously, and take initiative.
  • You are able to work independently, assume responsibility, and make your own judgments.
  • You are prepared to take ownership of complex new areas and solve problems with no or very limited guidance.
  • You demonstrate attention to detail but can summarize key messages succinctly, verbally, and in writing, adjusting your style and level of information based on the target audience.
