The BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU) is a leading producer of groundbreaking factual content, responsible for some of the most successful shows in recent years.

Our portfolio includes critically acclaimed series like Planet Earth III, returning series like Big Cat 24/7, kids content like Andy's Adventures, and technically challenging live shows like Springwatch.

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and creative leader to join our team as a Senior Editorial Leader.

Working closely with the Head of Unit and Creative Director, you will be responsible for developing and leading a clear vision for our portfolio of content.

You will inspire a team of executive producers and series editors to achieve their editorial aspirations and empower them to deliver high-quality, innovative content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a clear vision for our portfolio of content
  • Empower and support the team to deliver high-quality, innovative content
  • Ensure that content is aligned with the buyer's strategy and delivered on time and within budget
  • Oversee the development and oversight of commercial opportunities
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders in the NHU and lead pan-NHU projects
  • Manage the total budget for a production or portfolio of content
  • Create an inclusive working culture and uphold BBC values

Requirements

  • Demonstrable expertise and passion for creating content in the factual genre, especially Natural History
  • Minimum two years senior leadership experience in either production or commissioning
  • Proven experience of managing a large portfolio and delivering multiple, high-value projects to major clients
  • A proven track record in creative and editorial achievement
  • Effective planning and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and react positively to changes and conflicting priorities
  • A track record of realising creative ideas from conception to reality within limited resources and challenging deadlines
  • Proven experience of developing, leading, and managing the performance of teams at a senior level
  • Demonstrable understanding of audiences across linear and digital platforms, with experience of analysing market trends and performance indicators to inform strategic success
