About the Role:

The Regional Training Specialist position is a critical role within Covanta, responsible for overseeing and supporting power-generation based training programs in the region. This position reports to the Director of Technical Training and works closely with assigned facilities operations and maintenance management personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Training Delivery: Own, lead, and perform technical training for Operation and Maintenance employees in facilities.
  2. Competency Management: Lead a competency management system at the assigned facilities and provide regular reporting on qualification status, priority training, and competency compliance.
  3. Employee Evaluation and Development: Evaluate technical competency for employees, identify areas needing improvement, and develop individual development plans with employees and their managers.
  4. Training Materials Development: Design and develop training materials to complement field training efforts and deliver training in groups or individually.
  5. Training Program Development: Identify technical competency gaps and design and develop competency maps, training programs to close those gaps and assure competence.
  6. Apprenticeship and Entry-Level Training: Manage and deliver training for Apprenticeship programs, Entry-level training programs, and other technical programs to ensure employees' competency compliance as per the company procedures.
  7. Training and Qualification Status Updates: Maintain and disseminate accurate employee training and qualification status matrices for assigned plants on SharePoint.
  8. Collaboration and Communication: Develop effective working relationships with Facility Manager (FM)/ Operations Manager (OM) /Maintenance Manager (MM) / Shift Supervisor (SS) at assigned facilities.
  9. Travel and Work Schedule: Ability and willingness to travel 50-70% of the time across the region when needed. This position is facility-based and works 8 hours minimum per day, typically 8:00 AM through 5:00 PM.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of technical training development and/or competency management experience.
  • Technical Training delivery experience in the Waste-to-Energy, Power Generation, or Chemical Industries, including both operations and maintenance disciplines.
  • ASME/QRO Certification preferred or achieved within 12 months of hire date.
  • Excellent presentation skills, proficiency in learning/training management, and designing technical course content.
  • Strong organization, leadership, time management skills, and a positive attitude with a team focus.
  • Ability to delegate work, maintain a clean workplace, and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Self-directed, with minimum supervision, and possesses the ability to plan and schedule individual work assignments in accordance with department and personal goals.
  • PC skills - MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel), Computer-Based Training, and Learning Management Systems.
