Laboratory Supervisor

Main Responsibilities:

1. Supervise the analysis of water from various sources and other matrices in accordance with standard operating procedures.
2. Manage the day-to-day activities of the Microbiology team to ensure no disruption to sample throughput.
3. Monitor the performance of junior staff, ensuring their work is satisfactory and cost-effective.
4. Implement and manage changes to the laboratory and quality system, ensuring they are met.
5. Ensure samples are tested for the appropriate microbiological parameters using the correct methodologies and results are delivered within the desired timescales.
6. Examine, prepare, and authorise the production of analytical reports and undertake specialist site investigations and sampling as required.
7. Ensure methods used in the laboratory reflect current legislative and industrial requirements and provide expertise in method development and validation.
8. Undertake and ensure recording of formal training for all department staff and promote cross-training of different departments.
9. Assist management with supplier and manufacturer liaison to source the best deals for equipment and servicing for the Microbiology Laboratory.
10. Ensure effective response to breakdown and emergency situations within agreed timescales.
11. Assist with the implementation of external and internal auditing systems.
12. Ensure an audit trail is fully completed and maintained to demonstrate investigation of any non-compliances associated with deviations from routine practices.
13. Report quality control, method deviations, or equipment breakdowns promptly to the Quality Manager(s) and if required, to customers via Client Liaison Officers.
14. Document investigations according to internal quality policies.
15. Provide technical support to customers, client liaison officers, and other members of the laboratories when needed.
16. Prepare and participate in departmental meetings and prepare data for company reports.
