Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) as part of the Department of Thoracic Surgery.

This full-time position is available for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. It would be suitable for senior thoracic trainees or recent thoracic CCT graduates who wish to develop advanced operative skills in minimal access major lung resection and other complex minimal access thoracic procedures.

The successful candidate will work alongside our six consultant thoracic surgeons to provide a comprehensive thoracic surgical oncology service to the population of Bristol and surrounding areas. This includes major lung resection, surgical diagnostic and staging work, palliative procedures, chest wall tumours, mediastinal tumours, metastatic disease, surgery for pneumothorax, pleural sepsis, chest trauma, chest wall fixation, chest wall deformity, and other benign conditions.

Main Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Collaborating with consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Developing and implementing new ideas to improve patient outcomes and services
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • MBChB or equivalent qualification
  • MRCS or equivalent registration
  • Current GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in clinical thoracic surgery, audit, and research
  • Knowledge of clinical and basic sciences relevant to thoracic surgery
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
