About Your New Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate or Principal Associate with a strong background in professional indemnity to join our Specialty team. The successful candidate will specialize in lawyers' liability and work closely with our partners to manage a broad range of substantial and challenging cases.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage cases with limited supervision and assist partners with their caseloads
  • Prepare detailed and technical reports, correspondence, and court documents
  • Advise clients on issues of liability and coverage
  • Liaise with insurers, clients, experts, witnesses, counsel, and other parties
  • Ensure compliance with client service level agreements, relevant policies, and procedures
  • Support business development initiatives and complete management information
  • Develop junior members of the team and assist with other work allocated by the Team Manager
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans' values

This role requires a strong understanding of commercial insurance policies, the insurance market, reporting arrangements, reserving philosophies, and the relationship between brokers, underwriters/insurers, and lawyers. The successful candidate will have excellent legal and analytical skills, an eye for detail, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

About You

  • At least 5 years' PQE or equivalent experience
  • Experience of insurance litigation and policy coverage analysis is essential
  • Experience of professional risk claims relating to solicitors and barristers is essential
  • Experience of professional risk claims in other areas is highly desirable
  • Ability to work to deadlines, prioritize, and manage a caseload
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative
  • Commercial, solution-driven, and client-focused approach
