Job Summary

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Breast Screening and Imaging Matron to lead and support our dedicated team in delivering exceptional care. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the breast screening and imaging services, ensuring high-quality patient care and innovative service delivery.

About the Role

The Matron will be responsible for providing specialist support for women recalled to assessment and specialist nursing advice and education. They will also be responsible for ensuring the delivery of autonomous, evidence-based, individualized care through holistic needs assessment, planning, and evaluation of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist support for women recalled to assessment and specialist nursing advice and education.
  • Ensure the delivery of autonomous, evidence-based, individualized care through holistic needs assessment, planning, and evaluation of care.
  • Act as an expert practitioner demonstrating and utilizing specialist knowledge, skills, and expertise within breast care and across service boundaries as required.
  • Assess people's information needs and provide relevant information to meet those needs.
  • Troubleshoot during the patient pathway to assist all clinical areas to constantly ensure patient safety, optimized care, and a high-quality patient experience.
  • Influence the patient care pathway, referring to other professionals and signposting to other agencies as appropriate.
  • Ensure high levels of patient satisfaction. Promote patient experience feedback and ensure patient questionnaires are monitored and any required actions implemented.
  • Ensure privacy and dignity of patients in the provision of nursing care and clinical practice of all staff.
  • Lead on the effective management of the helpline so that queries are actioned in a timely way.
  • Work with PALS to ensure any complaints are managed proactively.
  • Support the Health of breast screening and senior divisional management team in the management of incidents & complaints, leading on investigations as required.
  • Ensure the written information provided is of an acceptable standard in line with Trust policies and is reviewed regularly.
  • Promote self-resilience and self-management after being recalled for further assessment and breast cancer diagnosis through education and support and nurse-led end of treatment consultations.
  • Work closely with clinical trials nurses to ensure the team promotes research and identifies patients who may be eligible and benefit from current trials.
  • Direct, support, encourage, and advise clinical teams by the provision of specialist knowledge and advice in the care of patients with breast cancer.
  • Work with housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Ensure the provision of an adequate supply of appropriate dressings and pharmacy deliveries.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Evidence of experience as a CNS at Band 8a or Band 7 in breast screening and breast care.
  • RGN qualification.
  • Evidence of breast cancer experience.
  • Evidence of working with management.
  • Evidence of service development.

Desirable

  • Masters qualification or working towards.
