Electrical Design Manager Job Description

My client, a leading high voltage electrical engineering company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Manager to join their team based in Bristol.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and support a team of CAD technicians and Electrical Design Engineers.
  2. Select and specify primary equipment and design HV substations from 11 kV to 132 kV.
  3. Collaborate with the in-house CAD drafting team to generate equipment layouts, cable route drawings, construction, and legal plans for new HV connections.
  4. Design secondary control wiring and protection schemes for substations and prepare protection reports.
  5. Select HV and LV cables and design cable routes using CYMCAP and Amtech software.
  6. Prepare multicore cable schedules.
  7. Develop design packages for DNO contestable works from 11 kV to 132 kV.
  8. Produce designs for electrical balance of plant works from 11 kV to 132 kV.
  9. Ensure all designs are safe and compliant with CDM and Health and Safety regulations, including producing design risk assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Must have previous experience as an electrical engineer within the electrical contracting or utilities industries.
  2. A higher degree or post graduate qualification in power systems would be an advantage.
  3. The ability to support the continued development of electrical design engineers by providing technical guidance.
  4. The ability to successfully manage a team of engineers and provide wider support for project engineers for technical queries.
  5. Must be available to travel on work-related business with occasional overnight stays.
  6. Must hold a full UK driving license.
