Job Overview

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the team by performing detailed take-offs and preparing comprehensive cost estimates for various construction projects.

This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quantity Take-Offs: Perform detailed quantity take-offs from architectural and structural engineers' drawings and specifications.
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects, considering all relevant factors such as materials, labour, plant, and overheads.
  • Valuations & Variations: Support customers with running their projects and completing valuations and variations on the projects won.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update cost databases, estimate files, and project documentation.
  • Tender Preparation: Assist in the preparation of customer tenders on their behalf, ensuring all required information is accurate and complete.
  • Communication: Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information.
  • Management: Manage a team of junior estimators, helping them move forward in their career and checking their work where required.
  • Analysis: Review and analyse project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to understand project requirements and scope.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a quantity surveyor or estimator in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in an estimating software. Training will be given on our bespoke system.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant qualifications in quantity surveying or commercial management along with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to confidently discuss customer projects and represent the business with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work on multiple small projects concurrently.
  • The willpower and drive to actively grow a department.
