Job Overview

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams are responsible for conceiving original ideas for new products, introducing them into practice, and ensuring their development, qualification, and release. They work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and qualify suppliers, conduct feasibility studies, and direct detailed design, testing, and manufacturing ramp.

About the Role

We are seeking a Materials Development Engineer to join our Performance Materials team. The successful candidate will be responsible for new product development, including defining technical requirements, developing new concepts, and industrializing new products. They will work closely with global teams to bring projects to fruition and contribute to the technical roadmap of the Performance Materials team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for product development and qualification from market definition to commercial release.
  • Define, coordinate, and drive technical activities to lead cross-functional project teams from an engineering perspective.
  • Prepare documentation, including product specifications, test plans, and production drawings.
  • Design products to optimize for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely with global manufacturing teams.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of the Performance Materials team.
  • Comply with TE H&S policies and maintain and coordinate safe systems of work with local management.
Requirements
  • Preferably hold a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline; Material Science, Polymer Engineering, or similar, or relevant experience with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience; or Master's/PhD with 2 or more years of experience.
  • Demonstrate technical experience in material development, polymer processing, including compounding and extrusion as it relates to tubing or continuous production environments.
  • Demonstrate understanding of product development by integrating deep knowledge of theory and practical experience into product development.
  • Develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, with the ability to prioritize, set, and achieve goals and drive improvements in business processes for product development.
  • Adapt and make departures from traditional methods or approaches to develop innovative products.
  • Take a proactive approach to design for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of cable, connector, and harness designs.
  • Experience working in the energy, automotive, aerospace, defense, marine, or medical industries.
