Job Title: Occupational Health Practice Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health Practice Nurse to join our team at West Midlands Police. As an Occupational Health Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of occupational health services to our officers and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-placement and pre-employment health screening, including health questionnaires and face-to-face or telephone assessments.
  • Perform health surveillance checks for fitness for role and ongoing health surveillance checks for specific roles, such as firearms officers and drivers.
  • Administer drug testing for new officers and staff in certain police staff roles.
  • Provide workplace immunisations and undertake phlebotomy and interpret blood test results.
  • Offer workplace health advice and health promotion where required.
  • Signpost to other primary healthcare services when necessary.
  • Liaise with occupational health nurses and doctors to assess fitness for duty in cases of complex health problems.
  • Undertake role risk assessments in relation to workplace health hazards.
  • Administer screening procedures, such as audiometry, spirometry, vision testing, and drug and alcohol testing.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Registered Nurse Adult or Registered General Nurse.
  • Experience of working in general nursing for a minimum of two years post-qualifying.
  • Able to work under pressure and ambiguity with minimal supervision.
  • Quality of care focus.
  • Experience of working in an Occupational Health service in policing, other blue light sectors, or NHS is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience of working in community healthcare, such as GP nursing or community nursing.
  • An Occupational Health or Travel Health qualification.
