Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology

Birkbeck University of London is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology to join our teaching team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and assessing students on our Certificate of Higher Education programmes, with a focus on the Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology module.

The module provides an introduction to cognitive psychology, covering the major elements of cognition, including attention, perception, and memory. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching, assessment, and administrative tasks, as well as contributing to the development of the module.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cognitive psychology, with a degree in Psychology and relevant teaching experience. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with adult learners and motivate them to achieve their academic goals.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching and assessing students on the Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology module
  • Developing and delivering high-quality teaching materials
  • Contributing to the development of the module and programme
  • Assessing student work and providing feedback
  • Participating in departmental meetings and contributing to the development of teaching and learning strategies

The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences. They will also be expected to engage in reflective practice and contribute to the development of the module and programme.

Requirements

  • PhD in Cognitive Psychology or a related field
  • Relevant teaching experience, with a focus on adult learners
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with adult learners and motivate them to achieve their academic goals
  • Experience of developing and delivering high-quality teaching materials
  • Ability to assess student work and provide feedback
  • Participating in departmental meetings and contributing to the development of teaching and learning strategies

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree in a related field
