Category Manager Job Description

VANRATH is assisting a large Public Sector Organisation in recruiting a Category Manager to join their team. The role is based in various locations, including Belfast, Ballymena, Omagh, and Armagh, with hybrid working available. The salary is £40,221 - £43,421.

Job Overview

The Category Manager will work under the Senior Category Manager and Head of Procurement to deliver a compliant, consistent, and professional procurement service. They will be responsible for implementing category management strategies to achieve value for money and supply chain improvement, embedding efficient and effective procurement processes, and providing procurement advice and support.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of a Procurement Category to deliver effective category management strategies based on business needs and emerging trends.
  • Contract reviews to ensure contract performance is managed in line with KPIs and customer requirements.
  • Management and development of an effective category management team to ensure competent and sustainable procurement resources are available.
  • Category level intelligent customer networks and management of ongoing relationships with departments and customers.
  • Strategic supplier relationship management to identify performance improvements.
  • Development of collaborative strategies for category and contract management and supplier relationship management strategies.
  • Pre-market engagement and regular market sounding to establish feasibility, capacity, capability, and encourage innovation.
  • Building relationships with procurement professionals from other CoPEs and benchmarking best practice.
  • Appropriate risk management methodologies and support for high value/high risk contracts.
  • Understanding of category expenditure, policy, regulatory, legislative, or supply and demand issues.
  • Procurement activity within category conducted in line with QMS and PCR (2015), NIPPP, and relevant PGNs.
  • Providing accurate, professional, and expert advice and guidance across procurement related matters.
  • Management of the category team to ensure tenders and contracts are awarded on time and effectively managed.
Criteria

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor's Degree (UK Qualification and Credit Framework Level 6) or an equivalent or higher qualification.
  • Two years' experience working in Procurement within a Public Sector setting or five years' experience working in Procurement in a Public Sector setting and two years' experience in the management or supervision of staff.
  • Three years' experience of managing the full procurement and contract management lifecycle.
