About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cycling Instructor to join our team at West Sussex County Council. As a Cycling Instructor, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality cycle training to school-age pupils and adults, promoting road safety and encouraging a love of cycling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver cycle training courses to school-age pupils and adults, either in groups or one-to-one, following the National Standards for Cycle Training.
  • Teach the fundamental principles of road safety and the skills to control a bicycle and carry out basic manoeuvres on local roads.
  • Deliver all three levels of Bikeability to children and adults, as well as teaching complete beginners where required.
  • Work with schools to arrange Bikeability training sessions and be the key link between schools and West Sussex County Council.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified National Standard Instructor (NQIQ or 1st4Sport level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training) or working towards.
  • Competent and experienced cyclist.
  • Understanding of the National Standards for Cycle Training and relevant sections of the Highway Code.
  • Knowledge of basic bicycle maintenance.
  • Experience of team working.
  • Experience of teaching/instructing.
  • Experience of working with children.
