Design Manager

About the Role:
Fawkes & Reece South is seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to support the management of the design process for new build and refurbishment projects in the South West region.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of construction methodology, materials, and systems, as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage information flow for schemes through late second stage preconstruction and construction phase on site.
- Chair regular design team meetings and manage consultant design team and sub-contractor design team.
- Regular liaison with client, stakeholders, design team members, and construction teams.
- Review construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractor's proposals, employers requirements, budget, and current building legislation.
- Support commercial teams with design advice on cost-effective designs.
- Promote safety in design and input to design development for bids and tenders.
- Support the production of O&M Manuals for handover.
About the Company:
Fawkes & Reece South is a busy regional main contractor with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of defence, energy, scientific, and data centre schemes, and offices in the South West and M4 corridor areas.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of successful project design input and delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Coordination / Design Management role, or as a Site Manager looking to make the move into Design Management.
Requirements:
- Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, or Design Management Degree background.
- Keen developing technical and commercial knowledge.
- Practical understanding of construction methodology, materials, and systems.
- Procurement lead in times, safety, etc.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong planning and problem-solving ability.
- Initiative and a positive, proactive approach.
