Estimated salary range for this role is £45,000 - £60,000 per annum.

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant Highway Engineer to join our team of industry leaders in highway engineering. As an Assistant Highway Engineer at Sweco, you will be working on a variety of projects across Scotland and beyond, including trunk road and motorway schemes, local authority road network improvements, active travel, and public realm projects.

Key responsibilities of this role include undertaking elements of design from road geometry, drainage, and pavement to road restraint systems and traffic signs and road markings. You will also produce design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports, and calculations to achieve the optimum solution for the project.

In addition to your technical skills, you will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce and be fully committed to your professional development through a mix of our in-house training opportunities and engaging with professional institution activities.

  • Experience of planning and delivery of elements of highway projects or work packages on larger multi-disciplinary projects is essential.
  • You should have experience of undertaking highway geometry design in accordance with the DMRB, and desirably Manual for Streets, using Bentley OpenRoads or Civils 3D software.
  • Strong experience of AutoCAD and a sound understanding of its integration with the BIM environment is also required.
