**Job Summary**
We are seeking an experienced Substation Infrastructure Specialist to join our design team. As a key member, you will be responsible for designing and delivering substation plant, equipment, and protection systems across various electrical infrastructures. Your primary focus will be on ensuring substation infrastructure is correctly identified and procured in a timely manner.
**Responsibilities**
- Assess client project requirements and produce detailed plant and equipment specifications
- Create system designs that comply with applicable specifications and tender documentation, coordinating with manufacturers and suppliers
- Assist with tendering activities and provide technical guidance for proposed schemes as needed
- Prepare site layouts and schematics for multi-staged substation construction projects
- Manage external plant and equipment manufacturers, design consultants, and oversee design outputs to ensure compatibility with electro-technical requirements
- Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients, manufacturers, and consultancies to produce accurate designs within indicated timescales and in line with deliverables
- Produce detailed electrical control and protection schematic drawings for large electrical infrastructure schemes
- Prepare electro-technical drawings, plant and material procurement lists, and wiring diagrams for control and protection systems
- Develop functional specifications and advise on plant and equipment procurement, liaising with manufacturers to order plants according to client specifications
- Be able to develop detailed specifications for high-voltage plant, equipment, and ancillary plant and equipment associated with high-voltage substations
- Review equipment manufacturers' proposals and liaise with equipment manufacturers to ensure equipment suitability aligns with proposed designs
- Produce equipment schedules in line with relevant IEC, DNO, ENA, IDNO, and client-based specifications
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, P&C block diagrams, and connection diagrams
- Produce AC and DC schematic drawings, control and protection, cable block diagrams, SCADA, and multicore cable and termination schedules
- Maintain an electro-technical and commercial dialogue with suppliers and customers
- Ensure good technical documentation management and change control
**Requirements and Qualifications**
- Possess a proficient understanding of electricity industry and regulatory standards, policies, and their application to the role
- Have a good understanding of electrical plant, transformer, protection, relays, and control, as well as construction disciplines and current ENA, BS, and IEC electrotechnical engineering standards
- Should possess strong electrical knowledge within contestable and non-contestable connections sides of the market and demonstrate a proven track record working on projects like substation construction, cabling, overhead lines, while being fully conversant with working on switchgear, protection, control, and major designs of electrical plant including transformers
- Good knowledge of power systems, renewable energy, and protection design at all voltages
- Ability to take a brief scope of works and assist in producing a detailed design based on appropriate standards
- Be able to prepare single-line diagrams for multi-staged substation construction projects
- Candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent
