This newly created role will see you working closely with the Head of Legal to shape the future and direction of our department. You will provide broad legal support to our academic and professional services teams across the business, while also overseeing our research contracts team and acting as an escalation point for non-research matters.

You will be comfortable leading on contract details with partners, collaborators, service providers, and consultants, on a range of commercial contracts both within the UK and globally. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a challenging and varied role that offers scope for career progression in a supportive and empowering environment.

The successful candidate will have a minimum qualified undergraduate degree level (or equivalent) in law (LLB) or other relevant undergraduate degree, completion of the Legal Practice Course, Bar Vocational Course, or equivalent, and qualified to practice as a Solicitor or equivalent in England and Wales.

They will have experience of working in a professional contract and/or general legal role, managing a team, preparing, reviewing, and negotiating a range of contracts for internal and external review, and excellent knowledge, experience, and understanding of developments in relevant legislation, practices, and procedures.

They will also have experience of working and investigating across a range of legal issues, and a range of corporate entities, e.g., dealings between business and charitable/not-for-profit organisations.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding writing skills, with the ability to write/prepare high-quality papers, presentations, reports, and briefings to senior audiences. We offer a competitive salary of £65,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience, and a hybrid working style. The successful applicant would be expected to be based in Liverpool.
