We serve millions of developers, building for the cloud, IoT and data science. Our goal is to make open source easier and more reliable for innovators and enterprises.

Our new Developer Relations team aims to engage directly with open source communities and developer-centric organisations. We want to communicate our vision and products for better open source development experiences, and also have a better feedback loop from those audiences to shape our offerings and priorities.

A key role in this team is the Developer Relations Engineer. This position combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and communication skills to effectively collaborate with developers.

What You Will Do

  • You will participate in product meetings, contributing your insight and expertise at various levels.
  • You will maintain conversations with developer community members across different channels, including IRC, social media, product forums, meet-ups, and more.
  • You will work closely with colleagues in other teams to establish common approaches and consistency.
  • You will help solve specific technical problems identified by users or colleagues.
  • You will contribute to technical documentation to ensure that developer users' needs are met.
  • You will create technical articles, presentations, or workshops.
  • You will identify new opportunities for improvement in the developer experience we provide.
  • You will present at conferences, meetups, or technical events.

Requirements

We're looking for a strong candidate who:

  • has programming or development experience with a passion for open-source software
  • has worked with real-world challenges developing and deploying software using Linux
  • has practical hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (including Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • understands current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
  • has been a contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation
  • is an engaging speaker and presenter
  • can work effectively in contexts where different parties have different perspectives, needs, and understanding
  • builds trust, relationships, and confidence
  • is willing to travel globally twice a year for company events, as well as upstream and partner events
