Financial Controller for Engineering Projects

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team in the Cheshire area. This is a pivotal role that requires strong financial management skills and experience working within project environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial aspects for Technical Services and Projects, working closely with Project Managers in the UK and reporting to an experienced team based in Europe.

As a key business partner, you will oversee cost reporting, support the development of new systems and processes, and ensure effective cost collection and invoicing.

This role offers a unique opportunity to join a nuclear company at the beginning of a growth phase in their business.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Act as the financial business partner for Technical Services and Projects, leading cost reporting and system development.
  2. Support the Project Manager and Commercial Manager on commercial matters.
  3. Update financial forecasts, estimates to complete, and estimates at completion with input from the project team.
  4. Challenge and analyse the financial performance of projects.
  5. Manage the sales order and invoicing process.
  6. Align invoicing and cash flow with the customer's finance team.
  7. Ensure SAP workflows are maintained with the support of Group Finance.
  8. Translate sales orders into project budgets.
  9. Secure and control data for customer invoicing.
  10. Manage Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): release WBS projects and budget in SAP.
  11. Set up financial reporting in accordance with group guidelines.
  12. Conduct monthly project closures and report to Group Finance.
  13. Provide project Profit and Loss (P&L) reports in line with Corporate Finance guidelines.
  14. Perform margin and gap analysis.
  15. Monitor bought-in services (hours via time writing) and ensure accurate customer charging.
  16. Provide the Project Manager with financial impact assessments of identified risks, in close coordination with the Project Services Manager.

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum, plus bonus and benefits package.

Requirements:
  1. Degree in a relevant field and a professional financial qualification, preferably CIMA.
  2. Minimum of 2 years post CIMA qualification experience in a finance controlling role, in a project-related environment.
  3. Knowledge of international accounting standards and Companies Act requirements.
  4. Flexibility and willingness to travel to various company sites as needed.
