Corehr is seeking a skilled Lead Software Engineer - Clinical Trials to join our Programmer and Systems Management team in Oxford.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-quality clinical trials that improve patient and community health. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and enhancing our in-house databases and systems, as well as developing, building, and validating software systems required by the unit.

You will have the opportunity to line manage junior members of the Programmer and Systems Management team and develop and deliver training to trial staff in the use of software and systems. Additionally, you will contribute to the design of clinical trials and protocol development, offering advice on the feasibility of data capture systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain, support, and enhance in-house databases and systems.
  2. Develop, build, and validate software systems required by the unit.
  3. Line manage junior members of the Programmer and Systems Management team.
  4. Develop and deliver training to trial staff in the use of software and systems.
  5. Contribute to the design of clinical trials and protocol development.

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent relevant experience) in computer science or a related subject.
  • High standard of oral and written English.
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record as a committed team player.
  • Experience of object-oriented programming languages (especially PHP).
  • Understanding of back-end web application and API development, including using frameworks (Laravel).
  • Understanding of server (Linux), web server (Apache/Tomcat/Nginx), and database (SQL and NoSQL) administration.
  • Understanding of DevOps, especially CI/CD (Jenkins), containers (Docker/Podman), and version control (Git/Github).

The salary range for this role is £38,674 - £46,913 per annum, with discretionary range to £51,059 per annum. This position is full-time and fixed-term for one year in the first instance. You will have the opportunity to work regularly from home, but may also need to attend meetings at our office in Oxford.
