About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Bright Horizons Winchester Day Nursery and Preschool. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals for our children, adhering to our high standards of food safety and hygiene.
  • Work closely with our Chef to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, minimizing food waste and ensuring all dietary requirements are met.
  • In the absence of the Chef, take responsibility for the running of the kitchen, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard.
  • Promote and ensure child welfare, protection, health, and safety, and safeguarding.
  • Support the Chef in managing kitchen budgets and stock levels, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Contribute to a positive, happy, and safe environment for our children, colleagues, and parents.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a kitchen role, preferably in a domestic or commercial setting.
  • Passion for nutrition and inspiring healthy eating habits in others.
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above (or equivalent) – this must be passed on day 1 in post.
  • Sound knowledge of COSHH and managing different dietary requirements, particularly food allergies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, children, and parents.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
