The Chemicals Programme is a national team within the Environment and Business Directorate, focused on identifying emerging chemical risks and providing robust evidence to inform policy and regulatory responses. We are seeking a junior data analyst to join our team and contribute to this important work.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collate and interpret environmental data to inform risk assessments and support decision-making.
  2. Support data analysis for the chemicals Prioritisation and Early Warning System.
  3. Manage data queries and produce data summaries to inform policy development.
  4. Administer and quality control check data on a platform used to interrogate chemical screening data.
  5. Maintain and update open data products for chemical screening data.
  6. Review monitoring requirements to enable evidence-led decision-making.
Requirements
  1. A degree or equivalent experience in environmental sciences, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  2. Attention to detail and enthusiasm for data analysis.
  3. Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  4. Interest in ongoing concerns about chemicals in the environment.
  5. Proficiency with common digital tools, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable Skills
  1. Experience of data analysis, including working with geospatial data.
  2. Familiarity with digital solutions for working within a dispersed team.
