Epic Games is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Director to lead our animation technology team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing animation features and tools in the context of shipping first-party games.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement animation features and tools in the context of shipping first-party games
  2. Build and lead a team of experienced engineers and technical animators
  3. Work with other technology teams at Epic to advance the state of animation technology across the company, including in the Unreal Engine
  4. Collaborate with senior leadership to define vision of next-generation animation tools
  5. Research and explore novel forward-looking techniques, including machine learning
  6. Support internal and external customers
Requirements
  1. 10+ years experience building runtime animation systems and tools in a major game franchise, real-time engine, or middleware
  2. Experience as a leader in an engineering role, with demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively
  3. Experience writing tools and systems that improve the capability or efficiency of users
  4. A skilled software engineer, well-versed in software engineering principles, with excellent C++ skills and debugging capability
  5. An expert in runtime animation technology (IK, Quaternions, Motion Matching, Motion Warping, Data Compression, etc.)
  6. Intrinsic motivation to work with content creators, solve problems, and create better tools
  7. Has shipped at least one game and/or product
Nice to Have
  1. Research work/publications in the fields of Animation Technology, Machine Learning, Computer Graphics and/or Computer Vision
  2. Familiarity with procedural animation techniques, including modern Machine Learning techniques
  3. Familiarity with multiple platforms and/or Unreal Engine is a plus
  4. Experience developing in a large codebase
