Principal Network Engineer Job Description

A high-tech commercial bank in the City of London is seeking a skilled Principal Network Engineer to join their IT Operations team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting a multi-vendor network infrastructure, analyzing, designing, configuring, and optimizing the global network.

You will provide direction, leadership, and recommendations to secure and optimize network traffic. Your expertise will be essential in providing Tier 3 support and maintenance to the Cisco infrastructure, routers, and switches, including the Cisco Nexus and Catalyst platforms, Cisco ASR 7200/3800 routers, Cisco UCS, Cisco Multilayer Director, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance, and Cisco 6500 switches.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and maintain a multi-vendor network infrastructure
  • Provide direction, leadership, and recommendations to secure and optimize network traffic
  • Provide Tier 3 support and maintenance to the Cisco infrastructure, routers, and switches
  • Manage high availability architecture
  • Ensure the infrastructure is maintained at the appropriate patch and software levels using change management as defined in the ITIL framework
  • Manage, lead, and execute projects that integrate new technology that scales
  • Provide cross-training to team members to strengthen the broader team
  • Experience in workload balancing, WAN Optimization, Network Monitoring, and QoS policy and design

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in CS, IS preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
