We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research and Development Technician to join our team at MCCORMICK UK LIMITED. As a key member of our R&D team, you will be responsible for compounding seasonings samples, applying seasonings onto relevant base materials, and assisting in preparing samples for research and testing.
Key Responsibilities- Compounding of seasonings samples, including cooking and working with meat and poultry ingredients
- Application of seasonings onto relevant base materials, meeting specific customer and developer requirements
- Assisting in preparing samples for research, shelf-life testing, and other requirements
- Preparing and dispatching samples to customers globally, ensuring compliance with customs requirements
- Maintaining laboratory stock of raw materials, including experimental raw materials, and ensuring stock levels are at an appropriate level
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with company, third-party, and customer requirements, and in line with key performance indicators
- Sampling and picking up of raw materials from the factory located on the same site
- Setting up an internal tasting panel for flavour evaluation of raw materials and finished products
- Attending and participating in routine sensory panels, both R&D and Quality
- Working on existing lab systems to maintain data and traceability of raw materials and finished products
- Being cross-trained on a range of other duties in the department to participate in cover for daily activity of R&D Lab team
- Managing third-party calibration of scales and equipment for R&D Lab, meeting requirements of QMS, regulatory, and audit requirements
- Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment, in accordance with health and safety standards
- Conducting internal audits, including HACCP, quality systems, food safety, glass, and health and safety
- Supporting the preparation and execution of external customer and third-party audit programme
- Leading and/or actively participating in continuous improvement projects
- Further education to HNC or equivalent in a science subject, preferably chemistry or biochemistry
- Practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices
- Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or Consumer Science would be advantageous
- Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, working within a laboratory or food industry
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous
- PC literate as a minimum
- Attention to detail
- Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data
- Willing and capable to learn new skills
- Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and deal with constant changes
