Transformative Climate Data Role

We are seeking an exceptional Developer to join our Climate Observation Databases team, where you will play a crucial role in improving the efficiency and resilience of our observations quality management systems.

About the Role

As a key member of our Observations Quality Management team, you will be responsible for developing new solutions to enhance the quality and accuracy of our climate data. You will work closely with our team to design and implement modern solutions, leveraging technologies such as SQL, PL/SQL, and Python.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software to meet the needs of the Observations Quality Management team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine requirements and deliver software that accurately meets user needs.
  • Support and maintain existing processes and data feeds within the Climate Observations Database (MIDAS).

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in creating high-quality, maintainable, and secure code with a strong understanding of programming languages, frameworks, and tools, primarily PL/SQL and Python.
  • Database Experience: Proven experience working with Oracle databases to develop new operational services and products.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work with others to identify, locate, and fix faults, and communicate clearly and appropriately according to the audience.

Benefits

As a member of our team, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £46,974 annually, including a Recruitment Retention Allowance of £2,200 per annum, an outstanding Civil Service pension, and annual leave starting at 25 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 30 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years.
