Master Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description:
Leonardo is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineering Lead to join our team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our Manufacturing Engineering function, you will play a vital role in ensuring efficient production processes, adhering to quality standards, and delivering projects on time.
In this role, you will develop, improve, and support our manufacturing processes and equipment, enabling world-class production of Leonardo products. Your expertise will drive continuous improvement and contribute to our overall success.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist input to project teams to ensure the delivery of technically sound solutions.
- Leading failure investigations, prioritizing solutions, and championing deliverables.
- Contributing to Operations decisions and failure review boards.
- Tracking external developments and disruptive technologies to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing.
- Ensuring the development of manufacturing processes by studying product requirements and researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
- Acting as a Manufacturing Engineering authority to approve product/process/technology change.
- Leading and delivering Manufacturing Engineering sections of the Manufacturing Maturity Reviews and maintaining governance through the Lifecycle Management process.
- Advising on improving policies and processes within the operations framework.
- Ensuring manufacturing decision-making information is robust with objectives and results by reviewing production schedules, labor and material costs, and estimating future requirements.
- Preparing product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Creating a culture that improves manufacturing efficiency by generating innovative ideas and solutions.
- Reviewing manufacturing documentation, including input to process-specific risk assessments and technical reports.
- Assuring product and process quality by designing methods, validating/verifying process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Assuring manufacturing data, including routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
- Promoting a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation.
- Mentoring, coaching, and developing more junior members of the team.
- Providing domain experience in support of customer and user engagement and product road maps.
- Maintaining product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

Requirements:
- Minimum HND in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support their line of reasoning.
- Detailed understanding of the operational framework and business processes.
- Understanding of cross-functional/commercial business processes and their impact.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
- Experience of peer reviewing the work of others inside a product team and ensuring resulting actions are implemented.
- Ability to communicate concepts in a non-technical way.
- Confidence and ability to challenge/respond to technical/process issues while understanding the broad impact of solutions (systems thinking).
- Ability to interact effectively and manage relationships with customers and suppliers.
- Been involved in capability and/or process development, demonstrating an ability to implement a change to working practices.
- Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in engineering drawings and production documentation.
