About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Foreperson to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our horticultural operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the control of the workforce, setting targets and ensuring effective deployment of staff.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including quality completion sheets and time sheets.
  • Provide effective leadership for the people under your control, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensure depot housekeeping, including vans and plant, is maintained to a high standard.
  • Ensure works are completed on-time and to specification, with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as an effective assistant to your Supervisor and Contracts Manager, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Understand and work to contract documentation, including specifications and billing systems.
  • Develop, delegate and monitor the people under your control, ensuring they have the necessary skills and training to perform their roles effectively.
Main Tasks
  • Supervise teams of employees/sub-contractors on a daily basis, identifying workloads and allocating tasks to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Responsible for the quality of service within your area of operation, ensuring that all works are completed to a high standard.
  • Carry out grass cutting, raking and edging, weeding, sweeping, litter picking and leaf collection, as well as other horticultural operations as required.
  • Periodically assist with horticultural operations such as planting, pruning and maintenance of trees, shrubs and other gardening tasks.
  • Apply chemicals as required, following all relevant safety protocols.
Key Skills Required
  • Exceptional customer experience and development of strong, profitable long-term relationships with both customers and clients.
  • Profitable and effective management of contracts, ensuring that tendered margins are delivered.
  • Championing and representation of Company philosophies and values in relation to all stakeholders – customers, clients, suppliers and employees.
  • Effective deployment of all Company Health and Safety procedures.
  • Effective communication of any and all significant issues to Senior Contracts Manager as and when they may arise.
  • Creation of a positive impression with our customers and work to exceed their expectations, presenting a polite and responsible attitude at all times.
  • Communication with customers politely and professionally, accurately reporting customer comments to managers.
  • Understanding of what the company does, promotion of the company wherever possible and feedback of potential leads from sites and local press.
  • Wearing of correct corporate clothing and ensuring vehicles and machinery are professionally presented and that sites are kept clean and tidy.
  • Efficient and organised working to company systems, including timesheets, works control tick sheets, rotas, absence request forms, etc to ensure that contractual performance obligations are met.
  • Reading, understanding and working to the company's Health & Safety Policy and use of correct PPE: high-viz vest, ear defenders, gloves etc.
  • Ensuring that any plant/equipment is used safely and only after suitable training has been given.
  • Understanding and working to risk assessments and COSHH assessments and reporting of accidents and near misses.
  • Reporting of any potential health & safety issues to your manager/supervisor.
  • Reliability in attendance at work and following of company rules and procedures if absent from work for any reason.
  • Efficient and organised working to company systems: eg job sheets, quality completion sheets, time sheets and invoices.
  • Acting to help the company control costs and avoid wastage wherever possible.
  • Knowledge of the correct machine for the job and understanding of the maintenance requirements of machinery and ensuring appropriate checks and records are kept.
  • Utilisation of best, most economic and effective work practices. Taking responsibility as part of the team for delivering a quality service. Showing initiative and making suggestions for improvements that may lead to increased productivity.
  • Rigorous concern for the security of company buildings, vehicles, machinery and materials.
