Job Title: Manufacturing Design Engineer

Location: Hull

Annual Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 - DOE

Shift Pattern:

Mon to Thurs - 8 a.m to 5 p.m

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Design Engineer will play a key role in enhancing production by designing and standardising procedures, creating work instructions, developing tooling methods, implementing lean processes, and driving continuous improvement in product design and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with engineering projects and all departmental functions
  2. Support process design from concept to product delivery
  3. Develop new and existing production methods and systems
  4. Provide onsite support and advice to design, production, and purchasing teams
  5. Read and create technical drawings
  6. Manage and update drawings due to design changes and improvements
  7. Identify and implement design standardisation and modularisation
  8. Review manufacturing drawings for clarity and feasibility
  9. Support R&D projects and provide feedback for production-ready designs
  10. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders for data sharing
  11. Produce and review documents like worklists and cutting lists
  12. Support testing and technical documentation for build systems
  13. Generate and manage contract build reports and lesson learned files
  14. Perform additional ad-hoc duties as required

Requirements:

  1. Technical background in engineering (mechanical and electrical) with at least 3 years' relevant industry experience
  2. Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 2021, Vault 2021, AutoCAD 2021 (iLogic experience a plus)
  3. Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  4. Solid knowledge of steel, timber, and GRP composites
  5. Familiar with Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations and Design for Manufacture principles
  6. Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments
  7. Practical commercial vehicle bodybuilding/van conversion experience (beneficial)
  8. Understanding of engineering methods, including composite materials, GRP, aluminium, and steel
  9. Strong visualisation skills and attention to detail
  10. Excellent communication skills, effective in cross-departmental interactions
  11. Leadership in project meetings across business levels
  12. Experience with 5S and Kaizen methods
  13. Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, works well independently and in teams
