Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialist Registrar in Intensive Care Medicine to join our team at NHS Grampian. As a key member of our Critical Care Department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our intensive care services.
About the Role:
This is a 12-month post in Intensive Care Medicine, based in the Department of Critical Care at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. You will work alongside a dedicated team of 16 Critical Care Consultants, leading the Critical Care Department in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The department delivers care across two areas, totaling 32 beds, providing Level 2 and Level 3 care to over 1800 patients annually.
About the Department:
The Critical Care Department is a mixed medical and surgical service, admitting patients from all major specialties, excluding transplant surgery. This includes Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Major Vascular Surgery, Major Head and Neck Surgery, and Neurosurgery. We are an ELSO Centre of Excellence and an integral part of the UK ECMO Network, providing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygen (ECMO) support for patients from all Scottish Health Boards.
About the Team:
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a Major Trauma Centre, working as part of the Scottish Trauma Network, and a base for the North Division of the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service. Our department is extremely supportive for training, with great trainee feedback via the GMC and STS surveys, and we are a top program for overall trainee satisfaction within the UK. Opportunities are available to develop new and additional skills in extracorporeal life support, echocardiography, education, and simulation, quality improvement, and research.
About the Location:
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is situated on a self-contained 125-acre site at Foresterhill, to the Northwest of the city centre. It is one of the largest hospital complexes in Europe, housing Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, the Scottish National Hyperbaric Centre, the University of Aberdeen Medical and Dental School, University Institute of Medical Sciences, Health Services Research Unit, and the world-renowned Rowett Research Institute. We have a catchment population of over 600,000 across the North of Scotland and admit approximately 100,000 patients per annum.
Requirements:
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. You should refer to the National Person Specification (ST3 Intensive Care Medicine) to confirm your eligibility for this post. Informal enquiries are welcome to Dr Stephen Friar, Consultant Intensivist and Training Programme Director for ICM, or Dr Paul Gamble, Consultant Intensivist and Regional Advisor for ICM.
