About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our client, a leading manufacturer and wholesaler of FMCG products in the UK. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining health and safety standards across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Health and Safety Policies: Create and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures across all sites, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  • Review and Implement Emergency Planning: Conduct regular reviews of emergency planning and evacuation procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective.
  • Provide Health and Safety Advice: Offer expert health and safety advice and guidance to all levels of the business, ensuring a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop risk management plans, including COSHH assessments, to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop and Deliver Health and Safety Training: Design and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs, including staff inductions, to ensure all employees are aware of their responsibilities and roles in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Chair Environmental and Sustainability Group Meetings: Lead environmental and sustainability group meetings, ensuring the team is aligned with company goals and objectives.
  • Organize and Prepare OHAS Assessments: Coordinate and prepare OHAS assessments, working with the team to ensure corrective action is taken promptly.
  • Investigate Accidents and Incidents: Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, making recommendations for corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Monitor and Review Health and Safety Performance Metrics: Track and analyze health and safety performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance overall safety performance.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Health and Safety Legislation: Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practices, ensuring the business remains compliant and ahead of regulatory requirements.
  • Work with External Agencies and Stakeholders: Collaborate with external agencies and stakeholders on health and safety issues, ensuring the business is represented and informed.
  • Lead Health and Safety Committees: Chair health and safety committees and other relevant forums, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the business.
  • Conduct Regular Internal Audits: Lead regular internal audits to ensure the business is working to compliance standards, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Requirements
  • Experienced HS&E Professional: Possess a relevant NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) and extensive experience in implementing health and safety processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations: Have a thorough understanding of health and safety at work regulations and industry best practices.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent overall communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex health and safety information to all levels of the business.
  • UK Driving License: Hold a valid UK driving license, with the ability to commute to other business locations as required.
  • Knowledge of OHAS Procedures: Possess knowledge of OHAS procedures, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to Work Independently: Demonstrate the ability to work independently, as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering results and achieving business objectives.
  • Good IT Skills: Possess very good general IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
