Underwriter Job Description

The role of Underwriter involves managing a product suite consisting of commercial combined, property owners, retail package, primary liability, excess liability, contract works, and contractors' plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Renewals of commercial combined, property owners, retail package, general liability, and contractors liability
  • Providing guidance and coaching to team members where needed
  • Maintaining premium income per binder
  • Developing relationships with brokers
  • Identifying renewal threats and assisting handlers on renewal strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with best practice procedures and timescales
Requirements
  • Commercial underwriting experience is essential, specifically in property and liability, ideally in all or some of the mentioned products
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks and make informed decisions
  • Experience in dealing with commercial brokers and insurers
  • Experience working in a small team in SME organisations
  • Experience in underwriting with delegated authority or underwriting licenses
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in using software systems for underwriting and administration
