Chemistry Laboratory Manager

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Manager to join our team at Distinct Consultancy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring the quality of materials produced, and leading a team of laboratory technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the laboratory functions to a high standard, adhering to ISO 9001 and CE/UKCA requirements.
- Manage and motivate laboratory staff, providing clear expectations, objectives, and key performance indicators.
- Continuously monitor and improve procedures and methods to ensure an ethos of Continuous Improvement is maintained.
- Ensure timely reporting of test results and take appropriate actions.
- Represent the company during third-party certification and ISO 9001 audits.
- Write and maintain Risk Assessments and SSOPs.
- Ensure internal audits are carried out and implement corrective actions.
- Forge close relationships with site Engineering and Production staff.
- Provide technical recommendations and assist in the preparation of specifications.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training materials.
- Ensure R&D projects are progressing in a timely manner.
- Implement processes to ensure all technical inquiries are dealt with in a timely and effective manner.
Person Specification:
- Excellent management and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 and Factory Process Control systems.
- Good knowledge of Asphalt and hot melt roofing applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Good attention to detail and ability to work on own initiative.
- Good report writing skills and comprehensive knowledge of BSI and Industry standards.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to organize working days in a logical manner.
- Flexible in terms of traveling and hours.
Managing Operations:
- Ensure self and team adhere to Health & Safety whilst on site.
- Ensure risk assessments are carried out and Health & Safety is adhered to at all times.
- Company policy is followed at all times.
Managing People:
- Ensure expectations, objectives, and key performance indicators are communicated clearly to team members.
- Hold regular one-on-one meetings and team meetings.
- Ensure the development needs of employees are understood and met.
- Build and maintain a professional relationship with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively and lead and engage the team.
