About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist to join our dedicated team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. As a key member of our Neonatal Unit, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to our patients and their families, while also contributing to the development and implementation of ward strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students, colleagues, and peers to deliver high standards of care and embed best evidence-based practice.
  • Lead our unit to achieve BFI and BLISS baby charter, while supporting our patients requiring intensive neonatal nursing care.
  • Undertake advanced neonatal life support, including initiating cooling, high-frequency oscillation, and nitric oxide.
  • Empower families to care for their baby's needs through education and support.
  • Contribute to the transformation of services in the ward environments and contribute to the wider organisation strategies.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Relevant experience in neonatal nursing with intensive care experience.
  • RN Child Branch/RSCN/RM qualification and current NMC registration.
  • Relevant post-basic qualification relevant to clinical specialty (Neonatal).
  • Teaching qualification and assessing qualification.

Clinical and Leadership Skills

  • Knowledge of specialty and management/supervision/coordination skills.
  • Able to delegate, assess student nurses/support workers, and act as a preceptor/mentor as required.
  • Team leadership skills and ability to support ward/department manager in the development and implementation of ward/department strategies.
  • Knowledge of change management and its application.
  • Able to set, monitor, and maintain effective stock levels appropriate for the ward.
  • Extended roles - IV administration, IV cannulation, phlebotomy, ultrasound scanning, central lines, arterial blood sampling.
  • Able to calculate drug dosages.
  • Understanding of family-centered holistic care.
  • Awareness of key principles of risk management process.
