This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Insurance Risk Underwriter to join our team at The Travelers Companies, Inc. in the role of Insurance Risk Underwriter Specialist.

About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter with a strong background in Financial Lines classes of business to join our team. As an Insurance Risk Underwriter Specialist, you will be responsible for underwriting and assessing risk to maximize business growth and profitability for allocated book of business. You will actively participate and support Underwriters in new business, renewal, and mid-term alteration underwriting activities that support underwriting decisions, consistent with business growth and profit. Your duties will include accurate underwriting documentation/information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards. You will also establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other parts of the organization, including Head Office, Risk Control, Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, etc.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Underwrite and assess risk to maximize business growth and profitability for allocated book of business.
  • Actively participate and support Underwriters in new business, renewal, and mid-term alteration underwriting activities that support underwriting decisions, consistent with business growth and profit.
  • Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other parts of the organization, including Head Office, Risk Control, Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, etc.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need to have:
  • Previous experience of underwriting in Financial Lines classes of business.
  • Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
  • Demonstrates an ability and desire to learn about the enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
  • Working knowledge of organizational and regulatory rules, policies, and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.
  • Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification.
  • Previous insurance experience.
  • Previous experience of Windows MS Office.
