We are seeking a committed and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work one-on-one with a child with autism in a Reception class at a primary school in Leeds.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide individualised support for the child, helping them engage with daily classroom activities. This will involve collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning plans, using tailored strategies to help the student with sensory and communication needs, promoting a calm and positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised support for a child with autism
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning plans
  • Use tailored strategies to help the student with sensory and communication needs
  • Monitor the child's progress and adapt your approach to meet their evolving needs
  • Encourage social interactions and help develop essential skills through structured activities and play
  • Assist with transitions between activities and environments
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children with autism or other SEN in an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of autism and knowledge of communication and sensory support techniques
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a calm, supportive atmosphere
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff and engage positively with the child
  • DBS check required (or willingness to complete one)
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, estimated to be around £30,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications.
