We are expanding our commercial management team to support National Highways' £1bn investment programme in the Strategic Road Network. As part of this, we have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Operations team.

This role will involve supporting commercial and contract management of schemes valued from £1m to over £30m. The complex nature and diversity of the portfolio will ensure opportunities for developing new skills and capabilities, whether working towards Chartered Surveyor status or enhancing existing experience.

This is a hybrid position, and the successful candidate can be based in either our Darlington or Leeds offices. However, frequent attendance at the Darlington office on a weekly basis will be required.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Supply Chain management, including sending enquiry documentation, quotation assessment, work order award, and instructions to the supply chain where required. Supply Chain Payment assessment, including all relevant documentation.
  • Assisting in the management of site-level change control, including early warning and compensation event management and assessment.
  • Monitoring actual costs against targets and forecasts.
  • Managing a portfolio of works under supervision from a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor.
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure the Schemes Tracker is up-to-date, data is accurate, and reconciled against other sources.
  • Maintaining collaborative working relationships with supply chain contractors.

To be successful, you will need:

  • To have either achieved or be working towards a degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or a relevant technical qualification, or completion of a formally recognised graduate programme, apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying, or similar. Alternatively, you will have demonstrable experience in a similar role and/or be working towards a Chartered qualification within a relevant professional organisation, such as RICS, ICES, or equivalent.
  • Basic experience of contract administration, desirably using NEC forms of contract.
  • Evidence of experience, to an Intermediate level, of MS Software specifically Excel (basic formula, pivot tables, formatting).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills enabling effective engagement with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of commercial management.
