Job Overview

The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service at King's College Hospital is expanding, driven by the improving life expectancy of individuals living with CF. We are seeking a full-time Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist to join our Clinical Psychology team, working in a dynamic and forward-thinking multidisciplinary environment.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside colleagues from various disciplines, including medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, and social work. As a fully integrated team member, you will provide clinical consultation to other members of the multidisciplinary team, contribute to service development, training, and research initiatives, and receive professional support and supervision from the Band 8B Clinical Psychologist.

Main Duties
  1. To contribute to the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service.
  2. To provide specialist psychological assessment, treatment, and monitoring of outcomes, focusing on the identification and treatment of psychological issues affecting adherence to treatment plans and overall physical and psychological well-being.
  3. To provide clinical consultation and supervision to other members of the Adult CF multidisciplinary team in relation to psychological aspects of patient care.
  4. To take a role in service evaluation, audit, research, teaching, and policy development.
  5. To work at appropriate levels of independence, following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, and seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager as required.
Person Specification
  • Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training) accepted by the HCPC for professional registration.
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients with physical health problems and complex psychological needs.
  • Experience of receiving clinical supervision across a range of client needs.
  • Experience of working with diversity, including multicultural frameworks.
  • Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists or other professional groups.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of specialized psychological therapies for people experiencing physical health problems.
  • Knowledge of legislation related to the client group and mental health issues, child protection, and equalities.
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of specialized psychological therapies for people with cystic fibrosis.
