About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in supporting the Ministry of Defence's Nuclear Submarine Build Programme.

This role will provide independent nuclear safety and technical advice to the MoD, specifically focusing on the manufacture and testing of the Naval Reactor Plants (NRP). The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of manufacturing, testing techniques, and design/quality standards for high-reliability pressure equipment or structural components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site independent witnessing of NRP manufacturing processes, methods, and testing.
  • Provide impartial, balanced, and proportionate advice to the MoD in support of the manufacture of future NRPs.
  • Represent the Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team at meetings with the MoD and their contractors.
  • Ensure work is conducted according to the best applicable safety, technical, and regulatory standards, consistent with relevant good practice and quality assurance.
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent professional training in science or engineering.
  • Chartership or working towards within an engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge within the manufacture of pressure-retaining systems or equivalent structural components through relevant qualifications or demonstrable experience.
  • Effective communication skills to work directly with the customer and their contractors.
  • Knowledge or experience of nuclear engineering is desirable.
