About the Role

The NHS England, East of England, Medical Directorate is seeking a Medical Director for System Improvement to lead the delivery of high-quality clinical services for the population of the East of England.

This is a key leadership role in the regional health system, working in conjunction with other leaders to drive system transformation and improve clinical outcomes and patient experience.

The successful candidate will provide professional and clinical leadership to regional and local networks of clinicians, supporting local health systems to achieve improvements in care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing system leadership and clinical improvement advice to support local healthcare system resilience.
  • Supporting the Regional Medical Director and Regional Chief Nurse in the delivery of regional quality surveillance and assurance.
  • Working with the regional Chief Operating Officer to oversee, plan, and deliver regional planned and unplanned care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of delivery of quality improvement projects or programmes, with experience of interfacing with external agencies at a senior level and expert knowledge of the commissioning and provision of healthcare.

They will also have a good understanding of health system dynamics and policy, with knowledge of quality in healthcare and experience of providing mentorship and professional development of others at a senior level.

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Regional Medical Director and will be expected to work collaboratively with the multi-professional members of the medical directorate.
