About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Paper Conservator to join our team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for the conservation and care of our extensive and diverse collection of paper-based materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality conservation projects for paper-based materials, including interventive conservation treatments.
  • Maintain the collection by working with the Archivist and colleagues to ensure high standards of collections care.
  • Develop and implement appropriate methodologies for documenting archival material and completing documentation.
  • Stay up-to-date with sector developments in paper and archive conservation and undertake research to enhance our knowledge of the collection.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level with a recognised post-graduate conservation qualification in Paper Conservation or equivalent training/experience.
  • Proven work experience in the museums sector (post-education/training).
  • Experience in condition surveying archive collections and implementing solutions for safe transport and public access.
  • Ability to undertake research and experience of writing for publications and social media.
  • Strong connections within the paper conservation sector and commitment to continuous professional development.
