Marine Cargo Underwriter Role


As a Marine Cargo Underwriter at AXA Group, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable underwriting service to clients.



Key Responsibilities

  • Review submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports, to determine the degree of risk for each account.
  • Calculate appropriate risk premiums by considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, and underwriting costs to ensure profitability.
  • Advise, assist, and service clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • Manage relationships with brokers and clients to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensure account retention.
  • Implement new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements, both on excess of loss and quota share basis, in coordination with other internal teams.
  • Review loss control reports and manage policy endorsement requests to process necessary changes.
  • Support business planning and forecasting, monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits and premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised and support the settlement of claims.


Requirements

  • Experience in Marine Cargo underwriting, with functional knowledge and skills reflective of a fully competent practitioner.
  • Marine Insurance Industry Knowledge and Commercial/Business Acumen, preferably with experience of / exposure to Lloyds & Global markets.
  • Analytical, negotiation, and sales/marketing skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a customer service focus.
  • Interpersonal Savvy - ability to build and maintain good insured and broker contacts.
  • Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy, and planning.
  • Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.
