Science Specialist Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and passionate Science Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a reputable secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time role starting in November, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Science department to provide in-class assistance and targeted intervention to students, enhancing their understanding and engagement with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • Offer one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional help with specific topics or skills in Science.
  • Assist with practical lessons by preparing materials, ensuring equipment is available, and maintaining health and safety guidelines in the laboratory.
  • Develop and adapt resources to meet the needs of individual students, particularly those requiring extra help with scientific literacy or exam techniques.
  • Monitor student progress, provide feedback to teaching staff, and assist with implementing tailored learning plans to address areas of difficulty.
  • Foster a positive learning environment, encouraging curiosity and a love for Science, while promoting positive behavior in and out of lessons.
  • Assist with administrative tasks within the Science department, including the preparation of learning resources and assessments.
  • Provide support during exam periods by helping students with revision, practice tests, and study strategies.
Requirements:
  • A strong academic background in Science, preferably as a recent graduate or someone with significant knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
  • Experience working with young people, particularly in teaching assistant, tutoring, or mentoring roles, especially in the area of Science.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • A passion for Science and education, with a desire to help students develop their understanding and enthusiasm for the subject.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff to support the learning and development of students.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with good organizational skills to manage classroom activities and learning materials.
